After doing a bit of research I was astonished to find out that the weight loss for dogs market has it own products. Just in the United States alone there is somewhere in the neighborhood of 17 million dogs that are overweight. The FDA is now approving different drugs to help dogs drop some pounds. For the purpose of this article and these tips I will try to stay on the natural side of things. So here is 7 natural tips.
1. The simplest one: cut back the amount of food you give your dog. I would keep the same number of meals, just have less food for each one.
2. Keep the meals at regular times each day and no snacking in between. Having a set routine for your dog will help maintain their weight.
3. This weight loss for dogs tip is one that we are all guilty of. Feeding the dog table scraps. Remember that dogs have very different nutritional needs than we do. Some foods that we eat are very hard for your dog to digest.
4. Try cooking the dogs' meals yourself. This will assure you of the quality of the food your dog is getting. Try sticking mainly to lower fat meats and maybe some vegetables. Certain meats like duck, goose, veal, pork should be avoided due to fat content. Also avoid salty, sugary, onions or garlic type foods. Keeping it simple is the best way to go.
5. If you dog eats at a hundred miles an hour it would be helpful to try and slow him/her down a bit. There are a couple of things that you can do: First you can feed the dog by hand as this will give the dog smaller portions or you can serve the dog only part of the meal at a time. The more time that goes by the dog will feel full instead of inhaling the meal before the full feeling registers. Also eating a bit slower will help digestion, which helps with weight loss for dogs.
6. Setup an exercise routine for the dog. Just like humans animals need plenty of exercise and this will help to regulate that extra weight.
7. Finally talk to vet. They may have other great tips on weight loss for dogs aside from using drugs.
Don Jefferson, a long time dog lover wants to help you learn what to feed your dog. I had a dog that died (the pic on my site) around the time of the recalls. She had many if not all of the symptoms of poisoning. I have been doing a lot of research on the topic and would like to help others.
